Palm Springs is often thought of as a sleepy, retirement town and not the glamorous destination for Hollywood’s celebrity elite it once was. However, in the last few years, the city has seen an emergence of new businesses – spas, restaurants, boutiques – that are taking this once quiet town and turning it into not just another desert destination but “the” desert destination for fine dining, shopping and relaxing.
Entrepreneurs are flocking to Palm Springs to start businesses, and the city is slowly emerging as the hot spot it once was. Mr. Cox Lifestyle Lounge is a perfect example of this emergence.
Last week, Mr. Cox Lifestyle Lounge opened in the heart of downtown Palm Springs, promising a true lifestyle experience and shopping destination to residents and visitors of the Coachella Valley. Mr. Cox Lifestyle Lounge is the more enhanced version of Mr. Cox, which opened in Palm Springs in 2011. When Mr. Cox opened in The Galleria, fashion enthusiasts swooned and the boutique quickly garnered a lot of attention as a fashion hotspot for couture vintage clothing and accessories. It was even lauded as a “fashion gem” in the desert.
Mr. Cox was seen as a success; however, the location (tucked away in the back of a shopping center) didn’t do much to promote the store.
So the Mr. Cox brand evolved into a more luxury, lifestyle boutique and Mr. Cox Lifestyle Lounge was born. Mr. Cox Lifestyle Lounge will offer shoppers an eclectic mix of high-end vintage couture from designers such as Paco Rabanne, Halston, Azzedine Alaia and Gucci, as well as pieces from its own signature line, Mr. Cox. Mr. Cox Lifestyle Lounge will also offer luxe home accents by master craftsman and sculptor, Dom Drumm, and eclectic coffee table books by Rizzoli. A European-style water bar has been added creating the ultimate lifestyle boutique.
Most notably, Mr. Cox Lifestyle Lounge is the only retailer in the Coachella Valley with exclusive rights to carry uber, luxury brand Chloé; a privilege that has traditionally been reserved for a select few high-end retailers including Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom and Bergdorf Goodman. Founded in Paris in 1952, the coveted brand has been artfully managed by highly renowned designers including Karl Lagerfeld and Stella McCartney. Chloé’s current creative director, Clare Waight Keller, now oversees the brand and has taken a more contemporary approach to the brand’s designs.
In celebration of the store’s opening, Mr. Cox Lifestyle Lounge hosted a soft opening event on Friday, November 29 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Cocktails were sipped and music was provided by DJ Yannis from 5:00 p.m. to close. Mr. Cox Lifestyle Lounge is located at 106A S. Indian Canyon, on the corner of Indian Canyon and Tahquitz Canyon.
